What’s in name, B. G.?

I get asked all the time what the B and the G stand for. Here’s your answer! The guesses are more interesting, though.

Big Girl?

Before Google?

Brigadier General?

My favorite guess was from a young reader in Arizona who thought it stood for “Book Girl.”  That makes perfect sense. Now I just need a cape!

Actually, the “B” stands for Barbara and the “G” for Gulbrandsen, my last name before I was married. But I still like Book Girl.

I’ve always loved a good question.

Before beginning my writing career, I worked for 17 years in children’s book publishing. For 13 of those years I was the Art Director at Viking Children’s Books. One of the first projects I worked on at Viking was POCKET FOR CORDUROY with Don Freeman.

During the past twenty years I have authored over 35 children’s books. My writing awards and honors include two Parenting Magazine Reading Magic Awards, an IRA/Children’s Choice Award and a Bank Street College of Education Best Book of the Year.  With nearly four million books in print in ten languages, my books can be found world-wide.

I am the author of all 14 of the CORDUROY lift-the flap books and the recently published CORDUROY LOST AND FOUND. More information on my books can be found at www.bghennessy.com. You can also join me on facebook on the B.G.Hennessy Books fan page.
